
ALFRED0 M0RAES was born in Asunción, PARAGUAY
( South America) on the 15th..
March, 1954.
In 1966, his first introduction to the basics of design,
composition and creativity was given to him in the studio of Prof.
CIRA "MIRICA" MOSCARDA, whilst Prof. ROBERTO HOLDEN JARA undertook
his first lessons in oil painting at Asuncion's School of Fine Arts.
Between 1973 and 1978 he studied ARCHITECTURE at the Federal
University of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil. During this
time he was an avid and habitual visitor to the many Art galleries, museums
and myriad cultural events in the Brazilian cities of Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia,
Curitiba, Florianopolis, Sao Paulo etc. It was the influence of the Brazilian
painters MYRIAM MEDEIROS and AGUILAR at this time which formed his preference
for a specialization in the medium of oil painting.
It was in 1978 that he attended the course of "Creativity"
under Prof. CLAUDIO COSTA in the Municipal Free Studio of Porto Alegre.
Later, in 1979, in the role of free student, he attended the oil painting
classes of Prof. HARMODIO SOLER at Asuncion's School of Fine Arts.
1984 saw him learning the techniques of Wood block printing, in the Studio
"Julian de la Herreria", of the Centre of Brazilian Studies in Asuncion.
Moraes has been a professional painter since 1977, with
oil painting being his principal way of expression. He has exhibited
in important galleries and museums in the city of Asuncion ("National Museum
of Fine Arts","Paraguaian Post Mail Museum" etc.) as well as other major
cities of Paraguay (Museum of Concepcion, Universities of Villarrica and
Encarnación, National Art Exposition in San Bernardino, Biennial
of Art in Areguá, Country Club of Ciudad del Este etc.). He has
exhibited also in Latin American and European countries such as Brazil
("House of Representatives" and at the Spanish Culture Institute in Brasilia;
5thh Plastic Arts Workshop in Santo Angelo etc.), Argentina (Museum of
Posadas, "San Martin" Cultural Center in Bs. As. etc.), England (Canning
House in London), Belgium, Bolivia (Expocruz'90 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra
and the important "CONTEMPORANY LATIN AMERICAN ART Exhibition" held in
occasion of the "First Meeting of Latin American artists (painters ans
sculptors)" in May/91 in LA PAZ, sponsored by the U.N.E.S.C.O. and the
International Association of Artists (from Paris).
In the course of these exhibitions he obtained a SPECIAL
COMMENDATION in "The Juan Bautista Aiberdi'89 exhibition" organized by
the Argentine Embassy in Paraguay. Furthermore he was awarded the
"PLAQUE OF HONOUR" in the"Grand Prix Internactional de Peinture Manuel
Scorza'90" held in Brussels(Belgium); in 1993 and 1994 he received SPECIAL
AWARDS from the Philosophy School of the National University of Asuncion
and the Municipality of the Aregua city,because his great efforts to preserve
wildlife thru his paintings. However the highest Distinction was
due to the reproduction of one of his oil paintings by the Paraguayan Post
Mail thru a SEAL POST Special Issue on Nov 12 - 1991 named "Paraguayan
Contemporary Paintings".
